We
Build
Character

At Fair Lawn Taekwondo, we believe that building character is just as important as learning martial arts. Character is not just about personality, but also about how we behave and interact with the world. We help our students build character in four ways: by teaching them respect, goals and commitment, focus, and confidence. These values are essential for success both in and out of the dojang (training area).

respect

Taekwondo is built on the foundation of respect. Students are taught to value others by responding with "Yes Sir" and taking care of their own belt to show respect for themselves and their progress. We also emphasize the importance of showing respect to parents and individuals in positions of authority.

goals and commitment

In Taekwondo, setting and achieving goals is crucial for building commitment. Our ultimate goal for every student is to become a black belt, and we help them achieve this by setting smaller, achievable goals. By earning stripes that represent their mastery of skills and techniques, students aim to earn a new belt every three months on average. This approach helps students stay motivated and focused on their journey towards earning their black belt.

focus

Maintaining focus is crucial for students to excel in Taekwondo. Any distraction can lead to mistakes while performing forms or skills. However, the ability to concentrate on the mat can be beneficial in other areas of life, such as school or work. This skill can help students stay dedicated and overcome challenges.

confidence

At Fair Lawn Taekwondo, we understand that many students struggle with confidence when they first start. However, after just a few months of training, we see significant improvements in our students' confidence levels. Our individualized approach ensures that each student receives the attention they need to grow, our emphasis on interaction with peers and public performances helps to build confidence.
