NOVEMBER 2018

Hi, my name is Tyler. I am twelve years old.
I am a second degree black belt.
I obtained my second degree black belt on
September 26, 2018. This is my Taekwondo Story.

What are some of your hobbies?

"Reading, Gaming, Taekwondo, and Cryptozoology."

When did you start Fair Lawn Taekwondo?

"June 26, 2010"

Did you have any prior martial arts experience?

"No."

How many years did you train with Fair Lawn Taekwondo?

“8 years.”

What led you to start your journey with Taekwondo?

“At first I thought it was about fighting, like an action movie.
So I joined and found out it was about peace and fighting only
in self defense. And gradually, over the years, I started liking it more
and more and here I am!”

What obstacles (if any) did you have to overcome
to obtain your current belt level?

“I used to be REALLY hyper and not listen and I ended
up losing stripes. Slowly, I became more mature and listened
and trained as hard as I could.”

What have you gained from taking Taekwondo?

“Early last year, 2017, I started lifting weights and eating and drinking 'protein things' and I lost 10 pounds (105 then, to 95 now). So yeah, healthier habits, and MUCH stronger."

Did you notice any change to how you approach challenges and obstacles?

“Definitely! I am more self aware of my actions and plan how I do something."

Have you noticed any changes in how you react to a challenging situation?

“Yes, actually. Once on an important test day my friend forgot his practice sheet (which we were supposed to bring), and he didn't know what to do. He told me this at lunch, and at recess I got a big group of kids together and we all studied with each other.”

What advice would you give a new student?

“Listen! If you want to get the next belt you have to listen
to what you need to learn.”

What advice would you give your younger self and older self?

“To my younger self? Hmm... Probably to calm down and listen (which I did). And to my older self I would tell myself to study hard so I could get into a good college that has a Taekwondo team."

What would you like to be when you grow up?

"I have a big range of jobs I would like to be. Here are some of the ones I REALLY want to be; Firefighter, Cryptozoologist, or an Illustrator."

How will your training from Fair Lawn Taekwondo help
you achieve your goals?

"Possibly to be more stronger in mind and decisions
and more self-aware."
