JUNE 2022

Meet Karanjit Singh.

He is 14 years old and a junior black belt.

Karanjit had no prior experience in martial arts,

before training at Fair Lawn Taekwondo.

"I was fascinated by the martial arts as a

self defense skill because they are designed

to make us stronger both physically and mentally.

At Fair Lawn Taekwondo I saw good opportunity

to learn these skills along with my friends, who were

already there, in a fun way."

Training was at times challenging.

Karanjit always takes on the challenges by having

a positive mindset and tries his best.

"I had to practice all the belt rank forms regularly

and improve my focus to obtain my current belt rank,

which is junior black belt. One activity which I really would

like to highlight is breaking of wooden blocks. Before, I used to

think that it is really hard to break with hand, but after learning

the proper form and technique, now I am able to do it."

What motivates Karanjit to continue to work hard

are mastery of learning new things, improving confidence,

positive attitude and recognition.

Karanjit's proudest accomplishment is when he learned

how to break multiple wooden boards for the first time.

Definitely obtaining his junior black belt, because now he

is only one step away from black belt.

What is his advice to other students and new students,

"The advice I would like to give to a new student is that

nothing is impossible.

However, we need to try hard, practice regularly,

focus on one thing at a time and follow your passion.

And Master Yoon is always there to help."

What is his advice to his younger self and older self,

"The advice I would give my younger self is that we

should always try new things and for my older self is to

keep exploring the new opportunities that are there to learn."

When asked, what he would like to be when

he grows up, Karanjit replied:

"When I grow up, I would like to be a scientist

because I believe that most of the problems

in the world can be solved through advancement in science."

How will your training from Fair Lawn Taekwondo

help you achieve your goals?

"Some of the qualities required to become

a good scientist are - being determined, curious,

confident, being a good leader and focused on the

task at hand.

In Taekwondo, I am getting an opportunity

to learn all these qualities in a fun way."
