OCTOBER 2018

Hi, my name is Christos. I am nine years old. I am a black belt.
I obtained my black belt on June 17, 2017. This is my Taekwondo Story.

What obstacles (if any) did you have to
overcome to obtain your current belt level?

"When I first started Tae Kwon Do, I broke my arm and
was in a cast for a few weeks. Since I had surgery on my elbow,
I had to sit out for four months, but I still went and watched my
cousin's classes. Master Yoon even signed my cast! Later, I was one
of the younger kids at my level. Even though I wanted to earn my black belt, I think I was too young. I was nervous about breaking boards in front of everybody. Another thing that has been an obstacle is that I have some health issues that make me take it easy."

When did you start Fair Lawn Taekwondo?

"July 1, 2011"

Did you have prior Taekwondo experience?

"No prior experience."

What led you to start your journey with Taekwondo?

“I started coming to Tae Kwon Do because my cousin, Vassilios, was going to Tae Kwon Do. I used to go watch him and I loved when Master Yoon gave me stickers. As I got less shy, I wanted to try it. It was so much fun!”

What have you gained from taking Taekwondo?

“I am stronger than I used to be. Physically and mentally. I also have more self-control. I also learned to meditate when I need to relax. I have gained courage and a loud voice ever since I earned my black belt. That was one
of the first speeches I ever had to make in front of an audience. I have also made many friendships at Tae Kwon Do.”

Did you notice any changes to how you approach
challenges and obstacles?

“I have courage to try new things. I try to make a plan on how
to approach a challenge.”

Have you noticed any changes in how you react to a challenging situation?

“I make an effort to stay calm and relaxed, so that I don't panic.”

What advice would you give a new student?

“I would tell a new student to try their best and to never give up.”

What advice would you give your younger self and older self?

“I would tell my younger self not to quit and not to worry about being younger. I would tell my older self to focus and not panic, no matter what obstacle I have to face.”

What would you like to be when you grow up?

“I would like to be a professional athlete. Or maybe a teacher.”

How will your training from Fair Lawn Taekwondo help
you achieve your goals?

“I know that I have to work hard for everything I want.”
