DECEMBER 2018
Hi, my name is Arnav. I am ten years old.
I just received my first degree black belt on December 2, 2018.
This is my Taekwondo Story.

What are some of your hobbies?
"My favorite hobbies are Chess, Math, Reading Books, and Advanced Coloring."

When did you start Fair Lawn Taekwondo?
"September 20, 2016."

Did you have any prior martial arts experience?
"No."

What led you to start your journey with Taekwondo?
“I wanted to become a black belt one day, and here you go I was standing
in front of the Dojang, ready for the pathway of martial arts, excited to start my wish.”

What obstacles (if any) did you have to overcome to obtain your current belt level?
“I needed a lot of practice, which took me time, as I was a red belt and I really didn't understand the different forms of back-spinning hook kick.”
What have you gained from taking Taekwondo?
“Perseverance. When I didn't understand something, I used to give up.
But now, I try and try until I get it."

Did you notice any change to how you approach challenges and obstacles?
“I used to go full force, not thinking about what I was doing. But now, I take
a few moments to think about what is happening, and then try to react in a way
that doesn't tire me down."

Have you noticed any changes in how you react to a challenging situation?
“I don't feel scared that I can/cannot do it. I just do the best I can, and if that doesn't
work, try to learn from your mistakes. :) ”

What advice would you give a new student?
“Don't be afraid that there are people that are a higher rank than you,
always think of everyone as equal in different ways. For example, you and the
black belt have different ranks, but the black belt may be inexperienced / not good
in one type of kick like you are in another kick. Remember, always be positive even
if you fail.”

What advice would you give your younger self and older self?
“I would tell my younger self what I said above, and I would tell my older
self to try to be better at beating Master Yoon in sparring!"
What would you like to be when you grow up?
"I am very unsure for the answer."

How will your training from Fair Lawn Taekwondo help you achieve your goals?
"It will remind me that I should never give up, and always try to persevere in tough situations, and lastly, always have fun doing something!"
